Our Sustainability Strategy

Check out the foundations we’ve laid for a more sustainable tomorrow.

We Think Sustainability’s Pretty Sweet

As a leader in the confectionary industry, Ferrara® bears a responsibility to leverage its resources for the good of our planet. We are dedicated to reducing our environmental impact, protecting our planet, and supporting its people. By planning long-term and acting responsibly, we hope to create a positive impact that resonates around the world.

Our Priorities

The Sustainability Journey of Ferrara

From sourcing to manufacturing to your pantry, we've identified key ways we can make a difference.

Climate

Setting science-based goals, executing energy efficiency initiatives across our operations, and engaging partners across our supply chain will reduce our carbon footprint.

Waste

Our goal to minimize waste starts at our HQ. During the construction of our Innovation Lab, we were able to successfully divert an estimated 75% of waste away from landfills, and use recycled-content, low-emitting building materials.

In 2023, our efforts in Brazil achieved a 22.8% reduction in landfill waste compared to the previous year as part of the biannual waste reduction targets of Dori®. Across our brands, we’re committed to designing packaging and products that avoid becoming waste.

Water

Water is the lifeblood that nourishes both our communities and the ecosystems we depend on. It’s also an integral part of producing candy. Smart investments and design choices have allowed us to reduce our water usage. Dori leads the way with an annual water reduction target.

In 2023, Dori reduced water consumption by 1.33%, saving 0.03 m³ per ton produced. At our headquarters at the Old Post Office in Chicago, we’re on track to conserve approximately 17,000 gallons annually with low-flow fixtures.

Responsible Sourcing

Protecting ecosystems is key to our smooth operations, people’s well-being, and a healthy planet. At Ferrara, we prioritize sourcing ingredients and materials thoughtfully, focusing on critical raw materials and looking to increase our purchase of certified raw materials whenever possible.

Community Action

Every Earth Month, we get together to plant trees, conduct cleanups, and organize educational events and giveaways. As partners of Friends of the Chicago River, we support litter and trash reduction efforts, and mobilize local communities during our annual Day of Service. These efforts tackle food packaging waste and keep our rivers clean for people, plants, and animals.

Our Work Is Just Beginning

We believe meaningful change comes from setting clear goals, measuring our performance, and sharing our progress openly. That’s why we’re hard at work on our first sustainability report. Ferrara is focused on maintaining transparency and building trust with our stakeholders and consumers.
